VIRGIL THE MAGICIAN AND THE EGG
Behind Piazza Piedigrotta is the Vergiliano Park, commonly known as the burial place of the Latin poet Virgil on which there are many legends handed down to the present day. Known during the Middle Ages as a magician and miracle worker, the poet often came to the aid of the Neapolitans, freeing them from numerous misfortunes. Famous is the legend according to which it was Virgil who placed in the dungeons of a castle a golden egg in a cage hanging from the ceiling. The fate of the city would depend on that egg. The guided tour starts from the visit to the Park, where next to the so-called tomb of Virgil we will have the opportunity to admire the elegant burial of the famous Leopardi, made after the death of the poet in Naples in 1837. Then you reach the Egg Castle, that still preserves the remains of an ancient Roman villa, to conclude the visit on the terrace from which you will enjoy a picturesque view of the entire Gulf of Naples.
