THE ROYAL PALACE OF CASERTA
The Royal Palace of Caserta has certainly revolutionized the world of architecture, thanks to the genius of Luigi Vanvitelli who built it in the eighteenth century. The residence was built by initiative of King Charles of Bourbon as a new administrative center of the Kingdom of Naples, taking as model the Palace of Versailles. The guided tour starts on the Grand Staircase, from which you reach the Palatine Chapel. After walking through the three Anterooms, you enter the New Apartment, furnished in Empire style, to reach the Throne Room; then you continue towards the Old Apartment, inhabited by the Bourbons and wallpapered with the silks of San Leucio. On request it is possible to extend the tour with a visit to the Park, to admire the beautiful fountains of the Italian Garden and the romantic landscape of the English Garden. Having a full day to spend in Caserta and surroundings, you can continue the visit in the characteristic village of Casertavecchia, between the medieval castle and the alleys of the center, or at the Byzantine abbey of Saint'Angelo in Formis with its spectacular frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
