GREEK-ROMAN NAPLES

The remains of ancient Naples are still visible below the modern town, creating a city full of contradictions. The guided tour to discover the ancient city begins in Piazza Bellini, to see the Greek wall of the V b.C. Walking along Via dei Tribunali you then climb to S. Aniello in Caponapoli, where the Greek acropolis was located. The tour continues with a visit to the monumental complex of Pietrasanta, which houses a stretch of the Greek-Roman aqueduct, built inside a tuff quarry and then reused as an air-raid shelter during the bombing of World War II. Last stop of the guided tour is Piazza San Gaetano, the ancient forum of Neapolis, to visit the Roman market under the complex of San Lorenzo Maggiore.
