THE CASTLES OF NAPLES
Naples is among the richest cities of military buildings, built from the Norman age to defend the territory from any external attacks. Imposing buildings, located between the promenade and the outskirts of the town, have been used over the centuries as state prisons and places of residence of the royal court. We will begin our journey right in front of the sea, visiting the imposing Egg Castle built on the ancient islet of Megaride above the ruins of the Roman villa of Lucullo. A little further inside, but overlooking the port, is the beautiful Maschio Angioino, which was the palace for the Anjou and the Aragonese family. Inside we will visit the famous Hall of the Barons, theatre of a famous conspiracy foiled by Ferrante d'Aragona, the Palatine Chapel and the other rooms of the castle.
