LIFE AS A ROMAN

Tragically buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii and the other Vesuvius cities were discovered only in the early 1700s by order of the Bourbons. They provided a unique testimony to understand many aspects of daily life in Roman times.

 

THE WONDERS OF POMPEII

Foundend toward the end of the VII B.C., Pompeii was a large commercial town, at the center of commercial traffic in the Mediterranean Sea, as we can see nowdays walking through its main streets. We'll visite temples, shops, thermal baths and rich houses decorated with beautiful frescoes and mosaics, reliving the everyday life of the ancient romans.

 

HERCULANEUM

Ercolano

Built on a vulcanic plateau overlooking the sea, the city dues its name to the mythical hero Hercules who founded it on his return from Spain. The town was embellished by public and residential buildings, becoming a luxurious holiday resort for patricians. Buried under 90 feet of pyroclastic flow, it has returned numerous organic finds, such as wooden furniture and carbonized fruit, that we can admire only here.

 

THE VILLA OF POPPEA IN OPLONTIS

Oplontis

Oplontis was chosen as a suitable place to build a splendid residence belonging to Poppea, the second wife of the dreaded Emperor Nero. Along the route we'll admire the beautiful frescoes decorating living rooms and triclinia, visiting the spa and walking through the garden embellished by a swimming pool shaded by threes.

 

THE ROMAN VILLAS OF STABIAE

Stabiae once was a privileged destination by Roman aristocracy, who chose the Varano plateau as an ideal place to build splendid leisure villas with outoor swimming pool and private thermal baths overlooking the gulf of Naples. We will visit Villa San Marco and Villa Arianna, leaving us enchant by the precious decorations with mythical representations, wreats and fantastic animals, walking through arcades and gardens like the ancient romans.

The entrance to the four sites is free for children under 18 and for school groups with teachers with a reservation in advance.
