The building dominates the square in the heart of Neaples and houses one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world, providing a complete picture of the Greek and Roman civilization in its various aspects. Among the first European museums it houses the famous Farnese collection inherited by Charles of Bourbon, son of Elizabeth Farnese and last member of the dynasty, who conquered the Reign of Naples in 1734. The 2.5 hours tour includes the Farnese Collection, the section about Pompeii and the Vesuvius area, the mosaic section and the Pornographic Cabinet. The 3-hours tour includes also the Egyptian Section, with its 2500 artifacts, second in importance only to the collection of the Egyptian Museum of Turin.
